Practitioners are becoming increasingly aware of the need for commissioning for new construction applications; it is not as widely known that the process has tremendous utility for existing buildings, as well. 
  
This program begins with an overview of the commissioning quality assurance process as developed by ASHRAE and adopted by the USGBC LEED program and others. It then focuses on the process modified for existing buildings and the specific tasks that have been chosen for the LEED 2009 Building Operations and Maintenance program. The roles of various parties to the commissioning process will be explained as well as the timing and approximate costs of existing building commissioning projects. 
  
Ronald J. Wilkinson, P.E., from Wilkinson Commissioning Management is a nationally published author and speaker on commissioning quality assurance procedures for the building construction industry. He is an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer and an AIA Continuing Education provider. He produced the first USGBC LEED commissioning training program, the first New York City Department of Design and Construction commissioning training DVD and continues speaking nationally and internationally .
