ASHRAE BC Technology Awards

Registration for the 2017-2018 ASHRAE Technology Awards is now OPEN.

The ASHRAE Technology Awards recognize outstanding achievements by members who have successfully applied innovative building design in the areas of occupant comfort, indoor air quality and energy conservation. Winners are recognized by peers as being innovative and capable of achieving a high level of competence. Performance is proven through one year's actual, verifiable operating data.

Each year the Society may present awards in six main categories, and three sub-categories:

All current members of ASHRAE may submit entries.  Entrants must have had a significant role in the design or development of the project. The project must have been in successful operation for at least one year at the time of entry.

A short form application is all that is required for chapter and regional awards. Regional winners will be asked for a more detailed application. The deadline for chapter applications is April 20th, 2018. More information on judging criteria and program requirements can be found here.

Chapter Awards & Regional Competitions

Each year, B.C. Chapter members have been highly successful in the ASHRAE Region XI and Chapter competitions. A list of winning projects since 2003 has been compiled below.

2015-2016

  • Integral Group won BC Chapter Award for YVR Airside Operations Building, New Industrial Facilities.
  • Integral Group won BC Chapter Award for Telus Garden, New Commercial Buildings
  • WSP Group won BC Chapter Award for University of Fraser Valley Student Centre, New Educational Facilities.
  • WSP Group won BC Chapter Award for Canalta Centre, Medicine Hat, Alberta, New Public Assembly.
  • Stantec Consulting won BC Chapter Award for Finning Maintenance Facility, Fort McKay Alberta, Existing Industrial Facilities.

2014-2015

  • Rocky Point Engineering won Second Place Region XI and BC Chapter Awards for Norma Rose Point School in the New Institutional Buildings Category

2013-2014

  • Rocky Point Engineering won Second Place Region XI and BC Chapter Awards for SARC Building in the Commercial Buildings Category.
  • AECOM Canada won BC Chapter Award for the Okanagan Falls BNR Wastewater Treatment Plant in the Industrial Facilities Category

2012-2013

  • AECOM Canada won First Place Region XI and BC Chapter Awards for Nanaimo-French Creek Pollution Control Centre. Existing Industrial Category.
  • DEC Engineering Ltd. won Second Place Region XI Award for Saanich Peninsula Waste Water Energy Recovery System Upgrade. Existing Industrial Category (also won BC Chapter Award in 2012)
  • DEC Engineering Ltd. won First Place Region XI Award for Westhills Green Community (Langford) District Energy System. New Multi-Family Residential Category (also won BC Chapter Award in 2012)

2011-2012

  • AECOM Canada won Third place Region XI and BC Chapter Award for City of Penticton Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant(AWWTP) Upgrade. Industrial Facilities Energy Use Category.
  • Stantec Consulting won BC Chapter Award for University of BC Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability (CIRS). New Institutional Buildings Category
  • Stantec Consulting won First place Region XI and BC Chapter Awards for Hillcrest Park Recreation Centre Project.  New Public Assembly Category.
  • Stantec Consulting won BC Chapter Award for VGH Willow Pavilion Tertiary Mental Health Re-Development Project. Health Care Facilities Category
  • AME Consulting Group Ltd. won BC Chapter Awardfor Jim Pattison Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Building Technologies and Renewable Energy Conservation - Okanagan College. New Institutional Buildings Category.
  • DEC Engineering Ltd. won BC Chapter Award for First Nations of Na-Cho Nyak Dun Central Services Mayo Yukon. Institutional Buildings Category.

2010-2011

  • Stantec Consulting won Region XI and B.C. Chapter Awards for the Vancouver Convention Centre Expansion Project. First Place- Existing Public Assembly category.
  • Stantec Consulting won Region XI and B,C, Chapter Awards for the UBC Campus Alternate Energy Feasibility Study. First Place-Alternative or Renewable Energy Use category.
  • AME Consulting Group won Region XI and B.C. Chapter Awards for the Meadow Park Sports Centre. First Place tie Existing Public Assembly category.
  • AME Consulting Group won Region XI Award for the Cowichan Aquatic Centre. First Place- New Public Assembly category.
  • Stantec Consulting won Region XI and B.C. Chapter Awards for the BCIT SW1 Gateway Project. First Place- New Institutional Educational Facilities category.
  • Stantec Consulting won B.C. Chapter Award and Region XI Award for the Mount Pleasant #1 Kingsway Project. Second Place- New Commercial Buildings category.

2009-2010

  • Integral Group (former Cobalt Engineering) won Region XI and B.C. Chapter Awards for the Millennium Water (2010 Olympic Village). New Residential Multi Family Category
  • DEC Design Won Region XI and B.C. Chapter Awards for the Whistler Low-Temp District Energy System. Alternative or Renewable Energy Use Category.
  • DEC Design Won Region XI and B.C. Chapter Awards for the Vel-Ray Lodge Adult Day Care Facility. New Health Care Facilities Category.
  • DEC Design Won B.C. Chapter Award and Second place Region XIfor the Langley Day Care Centre. New Institutional Buildings Category.

2008-2009

  • Stantec Consulting won two Region XI and B.C. Chapter Awards for the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and the Richmond Olympic Oval.

2007-2008

  • MCW Consultants won Region XI and B.C. Chapter Awards for the BCIT Aerospace Centre in Richmond.
  • AECOM (former Earth Tech) also won Region XI and B.C. Chapter Awards for the Kwantlen University Trades and Technology Centre in Surrey. 

2006-2007

  • Omicron won both the Region XI and B.C. Chapter Awards for the Fred Kaiser Building at UBC. 
  • Stantec won a B.C. Chapter Award for the Gulf Island Operations Centre.
  • AECOM (former Earth Tech) won a B.C. Chapter Award for the Surrey City Hall Renovation and Expansion project.

2005-2006

  • Prism Engineering Ltd. won Region XI and B.C. Chapter Awards for the HVAC modernization project at 650 West Georgia Street.
  • AECOM (former Earth Tech) also won a B.C. Chapter award for the Irving K. Barber Centre at UBC.

2004-2005

  • MCW Consultants won Region XI and B.C. Chapter Awards for the UBC Life Sciences Building. 
  • Jade West Engineering also won Region XI and B.C. Chapter Awards for their submission on a Chiller Upgrade at the TD Tower in Vancouver. 
  • Integral Group (former Cobalt Engineering) won a BC Chapter award for the UBC Technology Enterprise Facility III.

2003-2004

  • Stantec (former Keen Engineering) won at both the regional and chapter level for the City of White Rock Operations Centre.

2002-2003

  • Omicron won the Region XI and B.C. Chapter Awards for the City of Vancouver Works Yard Project.
  • J.M. Bean & Co. Ltd. also won Region XI and B.C. Chapter Awards for the Heritage Mountain Secondary School project in Port Moody.
